Exploring the Past, Present and Future of the Singapore River Through STEM
Developed for National Museum of Singapore, this parent-child programme connected the changing story of the Singapore River with environmental science, hands-on investigation and purposeful making.
THE OBJECTIVE
Connecting heritage with children's lived experience
Create a parent-child learning experience that helped children explore the changing Singapore River while connecting its history with environmental questions that remain relevant today.
OUR RESPONSE
A place-based STEM experience
Explorer Junior developed an experience where families could investigate how the Singapore River has changed over time through environmental science, engineering and creative making.
The programme connected Singapore's heritage with questions about how we understand, care for and imagine the future of the places around us.

From Heritage to Exploration
The Singapore River became more than a story from the past. It became a starting point for families to explore how places change over time — and the relationship between people, the environment and the decisions we make.
By bringing heritage and STEM together, children could encounter Singapore's history not simply as something to learn about, but as something to investigate, question and respond to.
Parents and children explored these questions together, making the experience one of shared discovery rather than passive learning.
